Interesting Facts: South Africa is often called the "Rainbow Nation", by the old President Nelson Mandela. Mandela used the term "Rainbow Nation" as a metaphor to describe the country's newly developing multicultural diversity after having a apartheid (Legal Segregation embraced and enforced by government) ideology. By 2007, the country had legalized same-sex marriage (Sound like they're decades ahead of the self serving bigots in america). Several philosophies and ideologies were started in South Africa, including ubuntu (the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity) and Jan Smuts's holism (The whole is greater than the sum of all it's parts).
